The PGA Tour is setting the stage for the regular season finale: The 2023 Wyndham Championship. Hosted at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, NC, this event features a $7.6 million purse. SCC will see players battling it out on a 7,127-yard par-70 track.
The 2022 Wyndham Championship was won by Tom Kim who shot a 20-under 260. This effort saw Kim claim the first PGA Tour victory of his career. Sitting comfortably at No. 14 in this season’s FedExCup standings, Tom Kim has opted not to enter the field for this event.
The players that have entered the field have done so in order to acquire some last-minute FedExCup points. Justin Thomas, Sam Burns, Adam Scott and Billy Horschel are some big names that are making the trip to Greensboro. After this event, only the top 70 players in the rankings will have the chance to play in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The PGA Tour shared a legendary moment from the 2015 Wyndham Championship on Twitter.
Players to watch
Justin Thomas – Currently sitting at No. 79 in the FedExCup standings, time is running out for JT. After missing the cut last week at the 3M Open, the pressure is on. In order to make the playoffs for the ninth straight time in his career, Justin Thomas has to finish in solo 18th place or better at the Wyndham Championship.
Russell Henley – After recording the fourth win of his career at the World Wide Technology Championship earlier this season, Russell Henley is in no jeopardy of making the postseason. As of now, Henley sits at No. 34 in the FedExCup rankings. A solid performance this week would push him into the top 30.
Hideki Matsuyama – Despite not winning an event this season, Matsuyama has also earned a spot in the postseason. Hideki is No. 56 in the FedExCup rankings, which will be enough to guarantee a start in the first tournament of the playoffs. In order to make it to the second week, he needs to fight his way into the top 50.
Action at the 2023 Wyndham Championship is set to begin at 7:23 am ET. You can stream the tournament live on Golf Channel. Weekend coverage will also be provided by CBS.
