The Philadelphia Phillies are making a push for the division by trading for some quality pitching ahead of the 2023 trade deadline at 6:00pm ET. Michael Lorenzen is on his way to Philadelphia in return for Hao-Yu Lee, an infielder.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported that the trade was close via Twitter on Tuesday, before it was official.
Lorenzen was a Cincinnati Red for the first eight years of his nine-year career, but did not make an All-Star team until the 2023 season, his first with a new team. He’s racked up a 3.58 ERA in 105.2 innings over 18 games (all starting appearances) this season.
This season is only the second time in his career that Lorenzen has pitched over 100 innings, his first being his rookie season with Cincinnati. He had a 5.40 ERA during that season, and gave up 18 homers. He’s given up 11 already this season.
