On Wednesday, the Jets announced that newly acquired forward Rasmus Kupari signed a two year, $2 million contract with the club.
Kupari, 23, was one of three players traded by the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois earlier this summer. After this most recent signing, all three former Kings now officially have contracts with the Jets, with Gabriel Vilardi signing on for two years in July.
A first-round pick (20th overall) in 2018, Kupari split the 2022-2023 season between the Kings and their AHL affiliate the Ontario Reign. He recorded 15 points across 66 games with the Kings and nine points in 11 games for the Reign.
As one of the youngest players now with the Jets – only a handful on the roster were born in the 21st century – Kupari certainly has both time and room to grow into a high-scoring forward.
A torn ACL and subsequent surgery in 2020 limited Kupari’s role early in his NHL career, but he may represent the Jets’ gradual shift to highlighting their younger contingent of players.
